The Fraternal Order of Police, Rikers Island Lodge #89 was chartered by the State & Grand Lodges and is a non-profit organization.
It is composed of law enforcement officers from Rikers Island Lodge #89, NYC Police, NYS Correction, NYS Police, and Federal Law Enforcement department(s).
The Lodge is incorporated in and under the laws of the State of New York as a non-profit corporation as of July 21, 1994. The Fraternal Order of Police is strictly non-sectarian, and shall have no application directly or indirectly with any labor union, congress, federation or committee of like nature, or similar organization by whatever name known.
The Lodge does hereby declare and subscribe to the official Constitution and By-laws of the Grand Lodge and the State Lodge. The Grand Lodge Constitution and By-laws, the New York State Constitution and By-laws and the Constitution and By-laws of this Lodge shall be the fundamental law of the Lodge, together with all such amendments enacted therewith. The Fraternal Order of Police shall not strike or by concerted action cause a cessation of the performance of police duties or induce other members or lodges to do likewise.
The mission of the Fraternal Order of Police - Rikers Island Lodge #89, shall be to provide its members with the opportunity to support and interact with its brothers and sisters of law enforcement. We will encourage and promote friendships, participate in charity, fraternal, and civic events.
Any regularly appointed, full-time employed law enforcement officer of the United States, New York State, cities, towns, villages and political subdivisions therein, permanently employed or temporarily detailed, or residing within the boundaries of the State of New York, shall be eligible for membership in this Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, subject to the provisions of Rikers Island Lodge #89 Constitution and By-laws. No person shall be denied membership on account of race, creed or sex. The Fraternal Order of Police, Rikers Island Lodge #89 shall deny membership to anyone who is, or has been, a member of any group regardless of by what name known, which advocates the abolition or destruction of our Government, either by force or subversive means.
There shall be Three (3) classes of membership: Active or Retired, Family Associate and Associate.
