Membership Qualifications

Membership is open to any regularly appointed, full-time (or retired) law enforcement officer of the United States, New York State, cities, towns, villages and political subdivisions therein, permanently employed or temporarily detailed within the boundaries of the State of New York.

A law enforcement officer is a police officer (as defined in N.Y.S. Criminal Procedure Law Art.1.20 Sect. 34), a peace officer (as defined in N.Y.S. Criminal Procedure Law Art. 2.10) or a federal officer (as defined in N.Y.S. Criminal Procedure Law Art. 2.15)

Regulations regarding FOP logo and paraphernalia –

If you secure FOP license plates, such plates must be returned to the Department of Motor Vehicles if you resign or are removed from membership in this organization. The Fraternal Order of Police regulates the use of the copyrighted FOP name and emblem and prohibits the use of it in any way without the express written permission of the New York State Fraternal Order of Police.

Responsibilities as a Member –

I hereby declare my desire to apply for membership in the Fraternal Order of Police. I agree with the aims and objectives of the FOP as outlined in the local, State and National Constitution & Bylaws, and I shall conform to all said rules. I pledge to respect all laws of the United States, the State of New York, and to support law enforcement in every way I can.

I also attest that I am qualified to apply for membership, and that the information supplied by me on the application is both accurate and truthful in applying for membership, and that any misrepresentation or deception on my part will be grounds for the denial of my application or expulsion from the Order.

Proof of Law Enforcement Officer Status –

A photocopy of your law enforcement ID card (active or retired) or a letter from employer on official letterhead verifying your present law enforcement status must be provided in order for your application to be processed. The photocopy or letter must be included with your application. If a member does not provide a copy of a valid law enforcement departmental identification card, the application will be delayed until the missing item is received by the Lodge 89 membership department. The copy of your valid law enforcement departmental identification card will remain on file for the duration of your membership. Under no circumstances will your identification be used for any promotional campaigns, advertisements, or any other reason other than verification of your identification and employment.

Annual Renewal & Enrollment Period –

Every year the enrollment & renewal period is September 1st through November 1st. All renewals MUST me postmarked before November 1st. If you submit your application after November 1st, a $10.00 administrative fee will apply. NO RENEWALS will be accepted after February 1st. NO NEW applications will be accepted after May 1st.

IMPORTANT

The longer you wait to renew, the longer the processing. It may take up to 2 months for you to receive your package if you renew after the November 1st deadline.

Change of Member Information

If you have a change of address, telephone number, beneficiary, or employment status, the FOP must have it on file. You can mail the information to:
